This study focuses on the fatigue life cycle estimation of a high-pressure multistage pump. Goodman, Soderberg and Morrow fatigue life criteria are applied using Fe-Safe software. The results show that for a pressure under 20.7 MPa, the pump is in its comfort zone with a number of cycles equal to 107. However, for a pressure equal to 27.6 MPa, the number of cycles falls to 986,279 cycles according to the Morrow criterion. The Soderberg criterion is much more restrictive with a number of cycles equal to 21,727 only. These calculations highlight the stress concentration zones in the pump body, which affects the number of cycles before failure. Next, a topology optimizations are used to enhance the pump’s performance in relation to high pressure. The optimization parameter used to evaluate the behavior of the body pump is the elastic strain energy density with an additional objective to reduce the volume. The optimization calculations reduce the maximal elastic strain energy density from 1.06 106 J/m3 (initial configuration) to 0.54 106 J/m3 (optimized configuration).
